Produced by the CAMET Social Studies consultants to highlight critical inquiry and skill acquisition within learning outcomes, this video speaks to the concept of inquiry-based learning as a methodology for learning/instruction that is embedded in learning outcomes and resources.
Focus On Critical Inquiry - Embedded Skill Development
This video is a co-production of EMS and the Halifax County-Bedford District School Board. In the program, Cole Harbour High School students introduce and perform sketches dramatizing race relations issues, sketches they themselves developed during a power play workshop in which they participated at school. The video is an in-service resource for teachers planning similar events; a guide accompanies it. The program is also a powerful means of provoking, in secondary-school students, a classroom discussion of racism at school and in the community.
In this video, Strait Area Education and Recreation Centre teacher, Doug Begg, explains his use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the senior geography curriculum at his school. His geomatics 12 students testify to their interest in the program and their career goals in taking the course. The video is punctuated with images of the geomatics 12 class at work on their classroom computer pad, as well as several of the map projects they have produced for their community during the course.
