Discovering Voices
The purpose of this seven-part series is to give students an active understanding of ordinary life in Nova Scotia in the late 19th Century, including the social norms of the time; the roles of women; the places of work and their backgrounds; and the social organizations and movements of the times in which they were written.
This series fits most closely the Social Studies 5 curriculum unit, Investigating Past Societies and the Social Studies 7 unit, Investigating Empowerment, but it is are also relevant to History Courses in the upper grades, especially Canadian History 11.
