A comprehensive literacy program requires structure, balance and engagement and cooperative learning. Google Apps for Education serves as an excellent set of tools in addressing 21st century needs as well as a complement to the Language Arts classroom. This intermediate session will show you practical methods to employ Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Forms and Classroom to effectively meet your students needs. We will focus on collaborative learning, real time feedback loops in assessment, and energizing your reading and writing workshops with a vibrant and interactive online classroom setting. Topics include: Choose your own adventure, collaborative editing, closing feedback loops, flipped lessons, formative assessment.
We will explore ways Google Apps for Education can be used between students to collaborate on group project work. GAFE can also be used for peer editing, teacher collaboration with students during project work to provide feedback and suggestions/encouragement, and as a system of checks to ensure that teacher comments are reviewed and considered in final draft submissions. Participants will create, collaborate, share, and respond using Docs, Slides, and Pixlr (with an opportunity to explore Sheets interactive chart integration directly into Moodle). We can also look at the way Google Scholar & Google Alerts can help students set up researching tools that will help automate the research process throughout any semester long research projects while providing them with multiple resources sent directly to their inbox on a regular basis. Finally we will explore how setting up Google Sites can display research in an interactive way with relative ease for students and teachers to create professional sites with limited coding knowledge.
In this session we will take you through a list of some of the amazing tools Google offers. Our intention is to share this alphabet of cool and different things that can be found in the Google environment. The session is intended to be fast paced and will cover a diverse collection of tools. (All PIIDPA friendly). This A-Z of Googly Goodness was inspired by Michelle Armstrong’s “A-Z of favourite Google Tools” presentation - But, you will find that this is very different.
