Teaching and Learning: A Primary Focus
This professional development series explores how three outstanding grade primary teachers integrate literacy development in their entire classroom curriculum throughout a school year. "September Set-up" demonstrates what these teachers do before classes commence- and in the critical first few weeks of the year- to kick start literacy development in their students. "Active Reading Hour" explores the gradual development through the year of independent reading skills and stamina. "Writing Workshop" tracks a similar path fro writing skills, from modelling in the whole class group to purposive, independent writing activity. "Other Curriculum Areas" shows how the featured teachers integrate literacy activities and learning into their favourite other curriculum areas. "Reflection" focuses on the role reflection plays in consolidating Primary students' learning, and providing for their teachers satisfaction, motivation and direction for further classroom development. All segments are punctuated by the remarks of the featured teachers and extensive live-to-tape segments of actual classroom activities.
